Industrial backhoe specifications. Defined the full range of
user requirements and interface issues through conduct of personal
interviews and task analyses. Combined that information with human
engineering principles to develop a detailed specification for all
features of the equipment with which the human operator interacts.
(Ford New Holland)
Tractor design strategies. Consulted with design engineers
and product managers on strategies for product operability, maintainability,
and safety. Emphasis was on the development and application of a user-oriented
design strategy for agricultural and industrial equipment, and the
specification of an information system to support it. The focal point
of the effort was a human factors conference with 66 participants
from 11 different facilities of the company. (Deere and Company)
Tractor cab design. Supported the design of a new tractor work
station and cab. Analyzed system functions; identified international
differences in tractor use; assessed the variability of user characteristics;
incorporated industry design standards; identified relevant human
factors principles and data; developed specifications for primary
and secondary controls; and evaluated design implementation. (Ford
Tractor Operations)
Cementing performance improvement. Analyzed the operation of
oil-field cementing equipment, attended and evaluated technical training
for cementer operators, and provided equipment design recommendations
at three levels of modifications to equipment in the field, changes
to be incorporated during production of equipment, and guidelines
for the design of conceptually new cementing equipment and systems.
(Dowell)
Design of petroleum servicing equipment. Provided human factors
engineering support to the design of new chemical blending and pumping
equipment. Supported the development of the Treatment Monitor Vehicle,
a new computer-based data acquisition and process control system for
providing oil and gas drilling services. (Dowell)
Ultrasonic system design. Consulted with design engineers and
product managers on operator-interface issues during the design of
a new digital ultrasonic inspection instrument (the USIP 20). Defined
the issues most critical to the operator interface of the instrument,
and guided the design team in addressing these issues. The work was
performed for a leading designer and manufacturer of ultrasonic instruments.
(Krautkramer Branson)
Design of an environmental test kit. Conducted user analyses
and applied human factors engineering principles to the design of
the Quik-Screen test kit for detection of toxic substances in fluids.
Designed the test card, user instructions, and test-kit packaging.
The kit subsequently gained widespread user acceptance among agriculture
inspectors. (Environmental Diagnostics, Inc.)
Facility work space arrangement. Analyzed personnel movement
and work flow in a garment manufacturing facility. Specified optimal
work space to support the consolidation of three company divisions
into a new facility. (Sauci, Inc.) |
